From Santa Barbara comes solo artist JENA DOUGLAS. - May 5, 2008

Jena has recently released a new CD called 'The Ballad Of Calamity' that features twelve songs. The songs follow the softer edge of pop/rock with hints of folk influences. She has similar vocal styles to Stevie Nicks as evident on the first track, the catchy acoustic uptempo 'Do You Dream'. Americana if you like at it's finest. Most of the album continues in this style with hints and influences from Bob Dylan to Heart and The Eagles. Best songs on the album for me were the excellent 'Again Someday' a smooth gentle almost melodic tune with fine guitar work and superb vocals from Jena and the superb 'You Don't Wanna Know'. Now this track is moody and has a strong seventies Americana feel, but still melodic and modern enough to give Gwen Stefani and Sheryl Crow a run for their money. The Ballad 'Walk On By' is also a very good song; gentle with crisp sharp guitars coupled with trumpets etc. very moody song with lots going on that keeps you interested.
