Jena Douglas: Bio

I have been writing songs for over 25 years. When I was 35, I returned to school and got an Associate of Art degree in music and a Bachelor of Art degree in music. My latest CD, The Ballad of Calamity, is a work of recording art. I describe this album as, "Alternative pop/country with a 70's hangover". It has some late Beatles flavor to it. The late great Kenny Edwards plays electric guitar, bass and mandolin. He was a phenomenal musician who was founding member of The Stone Poneys with Linda Ronstadt and produced and played on many of her successful songs. She credits Kenny to her success in music. I dedicate this album to him! He contributed more than just sounds on strings but he also brought my songs to life. I will miss my pal, Kenny Edwards.

Other players on the CD are, George Pendergast (Dishwalla) is a sought after drummer and the owner of Mike's Drum Shop in Santa Barbara. Tony Ybarra plays classical guitar. Keith Douglas, my nephew and also horn player for The Mad Caddies, Kings City and Mariachi El Bronx. Aaron Douglas, my brother plays bass on Sweet As You and Dylan Douglas, my son, plays percussion and bass (bass on Again Someday). Todd Grant, Steve Emanuel, Barbara Coventry, Dr. John Clark, and Robinson Eikenberry have all contributed to the quality sounds of this CD and then the mastering magic was done by grammy award winning Gavin Lurssen.

Over the years, I have recorded more than 50 songs. Starting with an all woman band in the eighties called Wet Paint to my next to last CD, Faded Fiction. Faded Fiction was recorded in 1998 with Ben Forrest Davis (formally with Sugarcult) as co-producer, drummer, guitar player and background vocalist. Also featured on the CD are some of the same players on The Ballad Of Calamity; Tony Ybarra, Keith Douglas and Dr. John Clark. Faded Fiction was recorded during the time I was attending, Santa Barbara City College. And I Fell from this CD was performed in front of David Crosby. David Crosby was very moved by the song as you can read from the article, Just a little song I wrote , see press/reviews.

After receiving my degree from the University in 2001, I plunged back into songwriting and in 2004 released my songs recorded in 1998 as, Faded Fiction then in 2007 released my CD, The Ballad Of Calamity. I am currently writing more songs for another CD and have just finished my first book, Change The World; Write Your Song! Book I - Fundamentals for the Singer/songwriter and beyond. I am now editing the book with iuniverse and planing a book tour in the fall. I am also working on the sequel, Change The World; Write Your Song! Book II and writing a blog called, Change The World; Write A Song. In the blog, I write about everything from songs for peace to Autism Sings (http://jenadouglas.wordpress.com).
